MMC 7/20

Hello there! Once again, I'm participating in the Monday's Minute Challenge hosted by Tessa Emily Hall on her blog . Also, this'll be my last post for a few weeks, since I'll be going on vacation with hardly any wifi. But when I get back I'll have some great blog tours coming up! Anyway, my story this week is 262 words long, and it's a continuation of last week's story about Tara and Karly. (You can read last week's story here ) I used the sentence prompt (submitted by Natalie), and had to write a piece either including, or based around the sentence: I turned around to get a better look and immediately wished I hadn't. Enjoy!      “Tara?” Karly called softly as she pushed open the door to her friend’s apartment. “Tara, are you in here?”      She took a step further and gasped. The entire room had been ransacked. Drawers lay overturned on the floor, and several things were broken.      “Tara?” She called a bit louder. “T...

Hey there, everyone!      I'm back again with another Monday's Minute Challenge! (hosted by Tessa Emily Hall on her blog: christiswrite.blogspot.com ) My entry for this one is 260 words, and I used the picture prompt and the sentence prompt (both submitted by Maddie).      Side notes/updates:      The Space Kitties Facebook party was a blast (pun fully intended :) ) yesterday. I know I had a lot of fun, and a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to hang out with all of us authors!      Camp NaNoWriMo and Ransom. Well, I've changed my wordcount again. I'm shooting for 25,000 words (more if I can) and I've already passed 10,000. I promise you though, this story will NOT die out after camp ends!      And now, my Monday's Minute entry.       “Hey, Tara,” Karly picked up her phone. “What’s up?”     ...

Monday's Minute Challenge 6/8

Hey everyone! Today I have another Monday's Minute Challenge for you! It's 299 words exactly, and I used the prompt submitted by Christine. I had to use, or base my story around, the phrase: "She was like a rose, deceptively beautiful, until someone got close enough to be pricked."      Tomorrow I'll have a cover reveal for you, and I'm thinking about starting a serial story on here. Weekly, or bi-weekly maybe? Anyway, enjoy this little scene between Tiffany and Mike (who may or may not be showing up here again... just saying :)      Mike stared at Tiffany’s back as they walked. If there was one thing he had learned about her during this whole escapade, it was this: She was like a rose, deceptively beautiful, until someone got close enough to be pricked. He was still smarting from the last verbal jab she had thrown his way.      And when she did shut her mouth (which wasn’t often) anyone brave (...

Monday's Minute Challenge 6/4

Hey Everybody! First off, my entry from last week won first place! :D Secondly, I've got another MMC for you! I wrote this one on the bus ride to Canobie Lake Park (for a band field trip). It's 237 words and based off of Maddie's prompt: “This,” he said, sitting straighter, “was not part of the plan.”      The underground room was dark, lit only by a few fluorescent lights along the ceiling. The seven teenagers scattered about the room were the sole occupants. One of them, Josiah Ashton, half listened as Nathan Mullsworth and his second in command discussed the plan for that night. Josiah idly twirled a broken pen as the boys debated, not paying too much attention until something caught his ear.      “Whoa, wait a second, guys. This,” he said, sitting straighter, “was not part of the plan.”      “Whose plan?” Lars asked from his spot on the couch, tossing a handful of potato chips in his mouth. “This is what we talked ab...

Monday's Minute Challenge 5/11

My Monday's Minute entry for this week (woohoo!)      I managed to get this one down to 300 words exactly, and I used the picture prompt submitted by Maddie.      Here it is! Serena smiled and leaned back in her chair. From her seat on the porch she watched the fireflies dance. Owls hooted and stars twinkled brightly overhead. It was hot outside, but there was a cool breeze. It was nice here in the middle of nowhere. As she leaned over to retrieve the glass of water next to her chair, a movement in the woods caught her eye. Star’s probably out again, Serena thought, rolling her eyes. That dog had escaped more times than she could count. No doubt chasing fireflies, though she usually isn’t this quiet. She stood, stretched, and reached through the screen door to get her dad’s flashlight. “Aunt Kira, I think Star’s loose again. I’m gonna go get her.” she called, before remembering that she was at a me...

Another Monday's Minute Challenge

Well, here it is! My second Monday's Minute Challenge entry. :o) My entry is exactly 200 words, and I combined two of the prompts: The three items "clouds, letter, and train" (submitted by Maddie/Meredith) And this picture: (submitted by Lace) So, without further ado, my entry: Dove stood on the platform of the train station, holding a newspaper over her head in a feeble attempt to shield herself from the pouring rain. Her uncle’s letter had said that he would meet her here, but she didn’t see him anywhere. Cars drove by on the road, and a particularly large truck sent a wave of water cascading over her. Dove jumped back as the dirty water splashed against her white shirt. “Come on! ” “Having troubles, miss?” A well dressed gentleman asked politely. “What? Oh, no. I’m all right. It’s just all this rain .” Dove scowled up at the dark rainclouds. “But you can’t help with that.” The man smiled and twirled his cane with expert fingers. “Can’t I?” At that...

"Monday's Minute" Entry

Hello all!       First post on first blog. Pretty cool, huh? :o)       Below is my entry for the Monday's Minutes Challenge on christiswrite.blogspot.com . I chose the prompt "I slammed the door of my car. What was I doing here?" submitted by His Princess, and my entry is 257 words:       I slammed the door of my car. What was I doing here?       Del whined from the passenger seat, her ears pressed flat against her head. She stared after me with mournful eyes. I reached in through the half-open window and ran my hand down the fur of her neck. “I know, girl, I know. I won’t be long, ok?"        The dog whimpered again. “Look, I don’t like it either. But this is my job.”       I could feel her watching me as I walked up the driveway. Halfway there I stopped and looked back. Del was pressed up against the...
